A random post about three virtues, Honor, Loyalty and Respect.

To me Honor Loyalty and Respect mean the following.

Honor, it is not just an attitude, it is a way of life, it is a higher set of morals, the way you treat those who you think deserve no Honor, tells more about what level your Honor is, then the way you treat those who you think deserve Honor. For how you treat your enemy's shows what your morals are. Also Honor is being the bigger person, when someone asks for forgiveness, even if you think they deserve it not, Honor demands you forgive, them their trespasses, as God forgives ours, Honor is leading your troops into battle, yet being humble enough to admit when your wrong, and when you need help, this reminds me of a painting by an artist who died this past week, Arnold Friberg, and his great work, George Washington at Valley Forge, kneeling before his Maker and praying.

A few quotes about Honor that I love.

"The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be." Socrates

"Piety requires us to honor truth above our friends." Aristotle

"Who sows virtue reaps honor." Leonardo da Vinci

"Honor is simply the morality of superior men." H. L. Mencken

"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it." Mark Twain

Loyalty, to me, this is one that must be earned, unlike Honor, which is higher morals, given to ALL MEN. Loyalty must be earned, and if it is abused, it is hard to return! Loyalty to a friend, is willing to do what needs to be done, stand by him, and at times condemn him, if he is wrong, Loyalty to ones nation, is Patriotism, but remember Loyalty is being who you are, all the time, not only some of the time, wear who you are proudly, for if your ashamed, maybe that is not who you should be, and you need to change.

To me, the greatest example of Loyalty, is my Saviour Jesus Christ.

John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

A few quotes I like about Loyalty.

"An intelligent and conscientious opposition is a part of loyalty to country." Bainbridge Colby

"Confidentiality is a virtue of the loyal, as loyalty is the virtue of faithfulness." Edwin Louis Cole

"Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it." Mark Twain

"The first tenet is that you should report corruption regardless of loyalty to incumbent or party." Linda Tripp

"If we can pattern our life after the Master, and take his teachings and example as the supreme pattern for our own, we will not find it difficult to be consistent and loyal in every walk of life, for we will be committed to a single, sacred standard of conduct and belief." Howard W. Hunter

And Respect, all men, have earned some degree of respect, for the fact they are Children of our God, if you live HONOR, and give someone RESPECT, soon you will have LOYALTY, and a new brother for life. Respect all men, the same way you wish to be respected, for if you lack higher morals, HONOR, and if your RESPECT is not for all men, then you will never earn TRUE Loyalty, for only With, Honor, Loyalty, and respect can we win the fight in the end, any part of this three legged stool missing, and you will always fail.

And respect, this is the best picture I could think of for respect.

A few quotes about respect.

"There is always the danger that we may just do the work for the sake of the work. This is where the respect and the love and the devotion come in - that we do it to God, to Christ, and that's why we try to do it as beautifully as possible." Mother Teresa

"If once you forfeit the confidence of your fellow-citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem." Abraham Lincoln

"Nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced." Albert Einstein

And may I add, "And refusing to enforce laws which have been passed, upon all men equitably."

"One who breaks an unjust law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law." Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Go up close to your friend, but do not go over to him! We should also respect the enemy in our friend." Friedrich Nietzsche

"Reverence may be defined as a profound respect mingled with love and awe. Other words that add to our understanding of reverence include gratitude, honor, veneration, and admiration. The root word revere also implies an element of fear. Thus, reverence might be understood to mean an attitude of profound respect and love with a desire to honor and show gratitude, with a fear of breaking faith or offending." M. Russell Ballard,

In ending, what one does to the lowliest of people shows what his Honor is, for Morals, are always there, and a lack to show higher morals to all, is to show that the Honor you have is fake honor!

Loyalty is a two way road, without the Loyalty of the General. The troops, feel hate, and distrust.

And Respect, without the General giving the respect each person deserves, it shows he lacks all three, Higher Morals, (HONOR) Loyalty to God, and by such, respect to ALL MEN, from your Enemy to your brother, God commands us to love one another.
