Step One.
Make coming here legally easier, by restructuring the "Department of immigration and naturalization" to make the wait times no more then 30 days. In 30 days we should be able to tell people, yes they can come here, or no they can not.
Step Two.
Remove incentives for coming here illegally, by doing the following 3 things.
1st NO MORE WELFARE for illegal's.
2nd Remove their jobs, crack down on those who hire illegal’s, punish them with fines, and Jail time.
3rd To have their kids be US Citizens, one parent MUST be a Citizen, no more of this, both being illegal, but the baby was born in the US, so the baby is a Citizen.
Step Three.
Make coming here illegally harder, by finishing the wall, and set up boarder guards, along the boarder, and allow them to shoot! And have the Federal government do their Job, AND allow states to help, like AZ SB 1070.
Step Four.
Deal with those who are here, tell all illegal’s, they can come to their local Town hall, or Police station for the next 30 days, and one of two things will happen.
1st free of charge they can be sent home, no questions asked, but if they still want to stay, they can apply to come here legally, and they will be top of the list.
2nd, they can come, and apply to join our Armed Forces, swear fealty to the Constitution, and if they do so, They can become Legal Citizens, along with their Wife, and kids who are younger then 18.
Step Five
Crack down on those who still want to abuse the system, by doing the following 4 things.
1st All Illegal’s caught after the 30 day grace window, are deported, and Charged with a Felon, and denied to come back here, at any time in the future.
2nd Any repeat Illegal is sent to jail for 30 days, and Fined all the money on his person, from 1$ up to 100,000$.
3rd Any Illegal caught running Drugs, is sent to jail for 90 days, and Fined all the money on his person, from 1$ up to 100,000$.
4th Any Illegal who Rapes or Murders anyone, is executed, after no more then 30 days after being convicted.
I think this plan would work well, I believe it shows the right amount of Mercy, and the right amount of Justice.

2. The reason it takes longer is because they have to check many paper across boarders and bueracracy in order to ensure they aren't lying on their applications. It DOES take longer than 30 days. 90? Maybe. But I'm pretty sure that 30 is outside the realm of possibility.
3. I think your sentencing times in step 5 might be a little off. And executing someone for a rape when you wouldn't execute their American counter-part is a huge miscarriage of justice. And killing someone for first time rape (and possibly second and third--I'd have to think longer about repeat offenders) is out of proportion to the crime.
However, I sure think you've got the basics. Make it easier to get in legal, harder to get in illegally, less pleasant if they do. Not to shabby.
I think illegals immigrants move US economy. Think for a minute, if they make a strike and let to work for one day: How much money lost American Goverment? You must to remember that illegals immigrants work in places that you don´t want to work. I don´t remember to have seen maids borned in US, or gardeners, or other labors as such. I think the problem is a little deep, INS have to be more flexible and should launch an amnesty to legalize all of those people. Best regards.
I just read that there were less illegal immigrants last year, than any time in the past 35 years. Must be Obama doing his job. So why so upset about immigration if it is better than ever in recent history? Maybe spend time pondering why you are so angry.

A new set of words is needed to understand immigration problems be it legal or illegal. There is little or no interest of most of those who use the word "illegal" to really understand immigration. The few who understand and still complain are hypocritically manipulating opinions. They are for keeping education away and difficult for the uneducated, and not only at a global scale but also locally, within the US.
The lack of political will to address their educational problems in the poorest states is a give away to their intentions.
Educate yourself by not listening to Rush Limbaugh, the high priest of the hypocritical church of extreme hate.

I'm a 16-year-old Canadian girl, so I really only know the basics of your politics, but I DO know that everyone has the right to an opinion. Just because you don't agree with it dosn't mean you should lash out at the author. While I myself don't necessarily agree with everything in the post, it wa an interesting and well written one.
I dont believe that all people should be allowed on welfare, but they all should have a fair shot at a good education and career.
